cool font feature

Hi. I just wanted to express publicly how great the new release is. The ability to change the font size has helped me so much! I'm starting to learn Chinese and the details of the characters were hard to see before. Now I have no problem at all.

Range of tests

Hi all, I am still learning this software. When creating a test, all the tests seem to be one-way. I create lexical entries in the target language and put definitions in English, and the tests only seem to give me English words to respond with the target language. But as I am only starting to learn the other language, I also need to become familiar with hearing and reading that language and testing myself on the English meaning. Is there a way of doing this without entering all the words as lexical entries twice i.e. once as target language and once as English?

Creating a dual language dictionary

Hallo!
I have just downloaded the PersonalLexicon, to be able to create an English German dictionary.
I write in English and wish to create the dictionary to support the translation of my texts into German.

Are there any other users of the product out there with similar activities. If there are I would very much like to have contact with them.

The scope of PersonalLexicon

this is only my second post and I have only had the product on my desktop for a few hours.
I have looked at innumerable tools to find a base suitable for the creation of an English German dictionary.
This product looks as if it has a framework better than anything I have seen to date.
What I do not understand is that the community is very small and posting members are limited.
Why?

removing themes from lexical items

Hi to all. New user using this for a traditional African language. So far so good! But can't seem to be able to find out how to remove a lexical item from a theme, other than deleting and recreating it. Can anyone help? Thanks.

Tibetan characters

One of our users has come across a problem when using Tibetan characters. It seems that sometimes Tibetan syllables don't stack correctly. For example, these syllables should stack like this .

After doing some research I've found that this is caused by a strange quirk with the font Kailasa when used in Java applications. To remedy this you can disable Kailasa in the OS. For Mac users, you'll need to run the Font Book application, right-click on the font name, and select the disable option. In Windows you'll have to actually delete or move the font out of the Font folder, found in the Control Panel.

Once this is done then a new default font will automatically be used for Tibetan characters that will render correctly. Note that in a future release, Personal Lexicon will allow you the change the font within the program.

requesting features and general support

Hello. I don't know how many people are looking at these forums, but enough people have downloaded and registered that I thought I should post the first message. The site is new as of last week and I've already gotten a couple enhancement requests as well as a few general support questions. It would probably be a good idea if most questions are posed in the forums instead of using the support email. That way everyone can have access to the answers. Soon, I'll change the FAQ to point to the forum instead of the support email address. That doesn't mean that you can't send email directly to support if you want.

As for feature requests, I need to gather input and opinions on what features would be most valuable. If you want to see a particular feature added to the next version of PL then I suggest posting a message in this forum and asking for people to vote for it. That way I'll know what enhancements should take priority. I certainly appreciate any input, even if a proposed feature doesn't make it into the next release.

new release

Greetings. The new website and version 1.2 of the software has been out for about a month now and the response has been good even without me doing much marketing. We've had thousands of downloads and some new registrations. I hope that the new Keyboard Builder tool is making it easier for everyone to input non-standard characters. I still need to update the documentation to explain how to use it, which I will be doing shortly. My hope is that the Keyboard Builder tool is fairly intuitive. I would love to hear if you agree or not. Please share any feedback you have either by responding to this post or by using the contact form on the website.

The next version of the software is being worked on as we speak. If you have any questions or comments about upcoming new features, again please let me know. I think everyone will be pleased.

Nouns and gender

Since nouns either be masculine or feminine it is superfluous to have (noun / fem) - all I need is (masc) or (fem) after a noun. If I leave out the abbreviation for noun I get (/ fem). How do I tidy it up to simply have (fem)?

Using conjugation information in a test

Hi all,
I've been using Personal Lexicon for a while now, mostly for Spanish adjectives and nouns, but I've just started using it for German and can't find a way to include the conjugation data of a verb in a test. am I missing something obvious? (I can't find an answer to this in the manual or FAQ)

Other Alphabets?

I'd love to see a version of Personal Lexicon that accommodates non-Latin alphabets. I'm currently using PL to learn Italian, but I would like to be able to use it to learn Greek as well. If this feature is already available and I'm just not aware of it, I'd appreciate an explanation of how to use it.

new minor version released (ver. 1.1)

A new minor version of the software was released today (17-Aug). It fixes a bug that caused significant problems when building a lexicon with all custom lexical types.

Another release is in the works, perhaps 3 months down the road. If you have any requests for features then please let me know. I can't promise anything, but I will put them in if at all possible.
