Generating an Export File

There are 2 types of export files that you can generate, one containing an entire lexicon and one containing select lexical items. Both file types are generated using the Export dialog. To initiate the process for exporting an entire lexicon, the lexicon need only be opened. To initiate the process for exporting lexical items, you first must select the items from the lexical item list in the main application window. Once done, open the Export dialog by selecting Export under the File menu.

Within the dialog you must choose which type of export file you're generating. When exporting an entire lexicon you have the option of including tests or not. When exporting a list of lexical items then you have the option of automatically including items that are linked to the items you've selected. This means that if the items you've selected contain roots, synonyms, antonyms, phonetically similar items, or related items that aren't a part of the selection then these linked items will still be included in the export file. If this option is deselected then some exported items may not be fully reconstructed when they're imported. In other words, if an item had a link to another item that wasn't included in the export file then the link will no longer exist when the item is imported because the linked item doesn't exist.

Whether you're exporting an entire lexicon or a list of lexical items, you can choose to include or not include themes and personal examples. Both are included by default. However, they might only have real significance for the author of the lexicon, hence it could be better to excluded from the export file. Once all the export options have been set, clicking the Ok button will open a file dialog that will prompt you for the name and location of the export file.
