Information Tracking Options
A lexicon has 3 information tracking options that can be turned on or off when the lexicon is created (in the New Lexicon dialog) or at any point after that using the Lexicon Properties dialog. The checkboxes that control these options are found on the Other tab and are defined as follows:
- Use personal example verification. When this option is turned on, each personal example will show either a checkmark or a red circle next to it. A checkmark means that you've verified the example is grammatically correct. Typically, verification is done by your teacher or a native speaker. By verifying personal examples you can be assured that you're not just learning how to use the lexical item in context, but that you're also learning correct grammar. By default this option is turned on and it's highly recommended that you leave it on unless you are fully proficient in the grammar of the language you're learning.
- Turn on alternate definitions. Turning this option on causes an extra definition field to be available when editing lexical items. You can use this field however you wish, but it's typically used to enter lexical item definitions in the target language while you continue using your native language in the primary definition field. This approach helps you think in terms of the target language exclusively. Later, when creating tests that use definitions, you'll have the option of using alternate definitions within question when they're available. By default this option is switched off.
- Lexical item difficulty adjusts dynamically. When this option is turned on, the difficulty rating of lexical items is dynamically adjusted as you answer test questions. If you answer a question correctly then the difficulty rating decreases (i.e. it's marked as "easier"). However, if you answer a question incorrectly then the difficulty rating goes up (i.e. it's marked as "harder"). When this option is turned off then difficulty ratings only change when you change them manually. By default this option is turned on.
